Our Fit for Life program encourages everyone to Be Healthy, Stay Active, and Feel Great. We offer group sports conditioning classes ages 11-18yrs old that feature 45 minutes of cardio, agility, strength, and flexibility training. Activation exercises are employed to “turn on” specific muscles such as the core of the body. By the end of the “warm-up”, shirts are soaked with sweat, athletes are alert, and it’s time now to get to work. Most people would have called the “warm-up” a “work-out”, but we are just getting started. Focus is placed on core stability while training leg strength. Still other players are working with medi-balls on explosive rotation movements designed to help them cut better, tackle harder, and jump higher. Most of the kids training here won’t become professionals, but with a little hard work, they will most likely be healthier, have more fun, and ultimately be more confident. They might even make the varsity team!

Osteoporosis Care
Osteoporosis: Is there something you can do about it?
Oakhurst Physical Therapy uses the Meeks method (By Sara Meeks, P.T., G.C.S.) in the treatment of Osteoporosis.
Oakhurst Physical Therapy’s simple and effective program strengthens bone, relieves pain, improves posture and balance, and restores some body height. With this method, emphasis is placed on strengthening the back extensors, the deep layer of muscles of the back that hold the body up against the force of gravity.
You will walk taller and look better.
Watch out for exercises that can harm your back.
If your current exercise program includes sit-ups, straight leg raises, toe touches, or knee to chest movements, you are at risk! Research has shown that forward bending (flexion) exercises can cause compression fractures of the spine. Oakhurst Physical Therapy’s program contains no dangerous flexion movements.
Oakhurst Physical Therapy will provide you with the best care and information needed to help with the treatment and prevention of Osteoporosis. Depending on your needs, the physical therapist may also work on your balance and posture. Improved balance will help you prevent falls. Posture is important throughout your life (as your mother told you), but it’s especially important if you have or could have osteoporosis. Poor posture can mean that your upper back is more rounded than it should be. A rounded back puts more pressure on your spine, increasing your risk of spinal fractures.
Your physical therapist may also teach you new ways to safely handle your “daily activities,” such as getting in and out of bed or a chair. With weakened bones those activities you once found simple can be challenging, and if you fall, you could fracture a bone.
